We recognise that not all congregations and gatherings will have weekly access to a pastor during this establishment phase. To support groups and families during this time, we are providing a lay-reading service order and sermon each week.

  • From this week onwards, the worship resources are changing a little. In addition to the service order and layreading sermon, you will find an A5 insert with the propers and hymns for the day, for use in congregations worshipping from the hymnal.

    The hymn lyrics and full texts of the Bible readings have not been included in the service order, so congregations using full orders or creating PPTs will need to add those in if required.

Additional Resources

The following resources may be helpful in preparing lay-reading services. As always, lay readers are encouraged to use their discernment when selecting sermons and other resources for services.

Written Sermons - Lutheran Church–Canada These sermons for lay-reading are written based on the old 3-year lectionary so while the texts used will mostly match existing LCA resources, there may be some discrepancies. 

LCMS Worship — Prayers of the Church Prayers of the Church for the 3-year lectionary, downloadable several weeks in advance.

Lectionary at Lunch - Concordia Theology - well-organised and simple to navigate resource showing the readings and other resources for each Sunday and for feasts, using the Revised Common Lectionary, the traditional three-year lectionary and the one- year lectionary.

LCA Worship Planning Page – LCA Commission on Worship - you will need to read through the sermons provided each week to select sermons which are confessional and appropriate in style for your congregation. If in doubt, ask a confessional pastor for advice/recommendations.  All currently approved service orders are appropriate for use in LM-A services.

For those unable to attend a service in person, you may like to sign up for a regular email from Pastor Robert Bugbee, the pastor at First Lutheran Church, Windsor, Ontario pastor@firstlutheranchurch.ca . Pastor Robert provides a weekly video service. In his emails, he sends out the link to the latest service, a printable service order and devotions for the coming week.
